Cupping Report | 5th April 2025

This month, we've been super lucky and had some absolutely awesome coffee arrive on the offer list from our friends at conscious, delivering on our new El Diamente, which has been the absolute star of the show. El Diamente has everything that I want a Peruvian coffee to have, really stunning little brew. Heaps of Maple Syrup character and Bright red fruits, jammy flavours. Awesome. We scored this 87.5.

Another standout coffee continues to be the Duwancho from our friends at Coffee Legends - an Ethiopian green coffee specialist. Daye Bensa has been one of our primary Ethiopian trading partners, hooking us up with some of the best Ethiopian coffees that the industry has to offer, and this Duwancho is no exception. When we tasted this on the cupping table this week, it was giving so much.
Heaps of Blueberries, Lavender and Bergamot & a very tasty helping of Black tea - everything that a really awesome Sidama brew should have. We scored this 89.

We came to the very last batch of our El Jaragual from Micafe. This was our top selling coffee in 2024, and the fresh batch that landed in January has already sold out. As expected, this coffee was tasting soooo good. Really delicate, lots of white tea characteristics, some of that Rosehip syrup and signature Bubblegum flavours make this coffee so unique. Rosado is one of my favourite cultivar, and every time I taste this coffee, I'm reminded why. We scored this 88.

Theilor Cruz is easily the best Peru Gesha coffee I've tried for some time. So much complexity and flavour clarity. This coffee has everything that you could want from a Gesha. Really intense florals in fragrance, aroma and cup flavour - super silky body, long, lingering, pleasant aftertaste. This coffee was giving heaps of Lemongrass, and Earl Grey. We scored this 90.

El Vergel is called 'Really Good Decaf' for a reason. I'm constantly stunned by this coffee - it seems to taste better and better every week. Extremely palatable, and with very few of the classic decaf flavour hallmarks that some can find off-putting. This is an exceptionally high quality decaf, with lots of clear flavours - lime zest on the nose, lots of  raisin-like sweetness, cooking spices and molasses that almost tastes like a Christmas cake. We scored this 86.00.

Musaza Lot 18 - our Anaerobic Natural Rwandan lot from our friends at Omwani was a big surprise. Personally, my flavour preferences don't usually align with anaerobic coffees, as they can sometimes tilt in the direction of ferment-heavy, but Musaza is not like that at all - all of the ferment character is really well integrated and yields flavours reminiscent of ripe banana, tropical fruit and berries. Heaps of complexity and honey like sweetness - this is a really classy demonstration of Rwandan cultivation and processing expertise. We scored this 87.75.

And finally Hatuhei - our washed East Timor lot from our friends at Karst. It's so great to see how far these guys have come in such a short time - when we first bought from them, we purchased 30kg at the end of 2022. This year, we were so impressed by the quality that we committed to 56 sacks, and yesterday's cupping demonstrated to us exactly why we bought this coffee and chose to support such an amazing project. So sweet, so easy to drink. Luscious chocolate and green apple stays throughout the whole cup journey, hot, warm and cold. Very expressive, yet easy going coffee. We scored this 85.75.

A week of very exciting coffees, can't wait to see what the next brews yield!
