About Cofinet

Last updated:

The Origins of Cofinet

The story of Cofinet really begins before the company's inception with Carlos and Felipe Arcila, sons of Jairo Arcila and Luz Helena Salazar. It started like many businesses do, as the product of an 80-year-long established family business, growing and distributing some of the finest Colombian coffees.

Growth & Innovation

In 2015, they expanded their operations, sourcing from other farms to make container volumes, and then shipped them around the world. As growers, Carlos and Felipe specialise in alternative fermentation processes. On their farm and in their processing centre La Pradera, the most exotic varieties are processed.

Many of these innovative processing approaches have helped reshape perceptions of Colombian coffee quality globally, especially for varieties such as Pink Bourbon, which has become increasingly celebrated for its vibrant acidity and floral complexity.

Values & Producer Relationships

Cofinet is focused on providing stable income sources for partnership farmers, with an emphasis on sustainability, ethical purchasing and cultivation practices, and on the development of long-term relationships.

Expansion Beyond Colombia

Recently, Cofinet have also branched out into Peru and Brazil, sourcing from many other farms to flesh out their offer lists, cover a wider range of seasonality, and also to help facilitate room for growth.

Environmental Initiatives

Cofinet maintains a nursery of native trees, which are shared free of charge with small coffee producers once they reach one to two years of age, encouraging their integration into coffee plantations. These trees enrich the soil with nutrients, reduce the need for chemical fertilisers, and provide shade that protects coffee plants, promotes bird activity to control pests, and slows cherry ripening for enhanced flavour and quality.

Our Work with Cofinet

Beth and Liam from Cofinet have become our go-to people for high quality Colombian coffees. Whenever we're after something special, we know who to call.

More recently, Liam and Cofinet have been helping us to source coffees from new farmers like Cesar Buesaquillo – which we talk briefly about in this little post here.

Cofinet's coffee has become a staple feature in our coffee offerings. Most recently we roasted San Sebastián, a washed Colombian from Inzá, Cauca, which has now sold out. Take a look at our current coffee selection for what we have on offer now.
